What this code covers
Source · Editorial summary grounded in 3 cited references ↓
75716 is the bilateral version of 75710. It covers the supervision and interpretation of a catheter arteriogram when both upper or both lower extremities are imaged. Billing 75710 twice for a bilateral study is incorrect, and so is adding modifier 50 to 75716, because the bilateral work is built into the code.
Orthopedic exposure to this code is mostly through trauma and limb salvage. Bilateral lower extremity studies come up in crush injuries, bilateral long bone fractures with vascular concern, and patients with peripheral arterial disease before major reconstructive foot and ankle surgery. Most of these are performed by interventional radiology or vascular surgery.
The same bundling issues apply as with 75710. Diagnostic angiography on the same day as an endovascular intervention is usually included in the intervention code unless the record shows no prior adequate study or a clear change in the patient's condition. Catheter placement codes are billed separately.

Work RVU vs. total RVU
The work RVU (1.92) is the surgeon's own effort — the figure physician pay and productivity targets are built on. The total RVU (4.87) adds practice overhead and malpractice, and is what drives the Medicare payment below.
| Work RVU | 1.92 |
| Practice expense RVU | 2.72 |
| Malpractice RVU | 0.23 |
| Total RVU | 4.87 |
| Medicare national rate | $162.66 |

Payment by site of service
Medicare pays different rates by setting. HOPD typically pays substantially more than ASC for the same procedure.
